We have a requirement where we want the workflow action input fields to be filled from a associated objects’ data.

For an example,

I have created a deal based workflow. And I have an action coming from a connected integration, and I want to input the contacts’ details (such as name, email) which associated with the deal.

How can we achieve this ?

For the deal owner details, I can see we have options in the deal details in the workflow. (Deal owner \> Email, Deal owner \> Full name, etc)

Do we have something like this to get the associated objects data as well ?

Or else is there is a way to get the associated objects details of the current object ?

Hi, @johannes-m 👋 Thanks for your question.

I’d like to invite some of our community members to share how they’ve dealt with this in their projects — hey [@zach\_threadint](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/324811) @ChrisoKlepke do you have any tips or workarounds you can share with @johannes-m\>?

Thank you for taking a look! — Jaycee

Hi @johannes-m 👋

I think this will largely depend on the functionality of the action supplied by the “connected integration”.

To demonstrate how this _ **can** _ work, I looked at HubSpot’s workflow action “Send internal email notification”. As you can see in the below recording, there’s an option to “Edit available data” where **HubSpot** (the “supplier” of the workflow action) allows you to access data from records associated with the record enrolled in the given workflow.

[![](https://d2qpr2jzcazej7.cloudfront.net/original/3X/a/a/aab7ac65e2083881e5b8ceb609bfca1505476fd8.jpeg "HubSpot Community Support: HubSpot Workflow "Edit Available Data" Screen Recording") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7rDpiCG4xc)

Based on my own experience building custom HubSpot workflow actions (i.e. via connected integrations/apps), the interface will not likely be the same for 3rd party integrations (as compared to the recording). Regardless, it’s up to the integrator to supply this functionality for you.

I hope this proves useful. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

Hi,
Thank you [@Jaycee\_Lewis](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/127074) for tagging !
Thank you [@zach\_threadint](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/324811) for the inputs ! Yes we can access the associated objects data like this in Hubspot’s actions in workflow.
But when it comes to integration’s custom workflow actions, we only have 2 optons to set as

` **supportedValueTypes** `, STATIC\_VALUE and OBJECT\_PROPERTY. Neither of these will allow the user to get associated object details. 😥
Therefore, do we have a way to set up the custom action fields where a user can access associated object data as well ?
or else do we have any workaround for this ?

Hi @johannes-m 👋

No problem at all, happy to help.

It’s not something I’ve tried before, but it might be worth exploring the use of “OBJECT\_PROPERTY” (within supportedValueTypes definition). As described within [HubSpot Developer documentation](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/automation/custom-workflow-actions):

_OBJECT\_PROPERTY\*\*:\*\* the user can select a property from the enrolled object **or an output from a previous action** to use as the value of the field._

If this doesn’t fit the bill, you might need to consider [HubSpot custom code workflow action](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/workflows/custom-code-actions), although this would be HubSpot Portal-specific (rather than supplied via an installed app).

I hope this proves useful. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
