Is there a way to force all phone numbers into a specific format, such as E164? If my phone numbers aren’t formatted this way the integration with a calling app I have won’t match records correctly.

So I need three things:

1. to update all my existing phone numbers to the correct format,
2. force all new numbers being manually entered into the format, and
3. ensure Imports follow the format.

I use HubSpot Free. Is this possible?

Hi @RR001,

How exactly do you enter phone numbers in the HubSpot CRM?

When phone numbers are imported or updated via API, following format: ‘+18779290687 ext123’, HubSpot will autoformat them, see here: [https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Automatic-Phone-Number-Formatting/idi-p/34567/](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Automatic-Phone-Number-Formatting/idi-p/34567/)

Similarly, if a phone number is added manually, HubSpot will auto-format.

In the free HubSpot CRM, that is it. Additional automatic formatting options would require the format data workflow actions of Operations Hub Professional or Enterprise: [Format your data with workflows](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/workflows/format-your-data-with-workflows)

Best regards

Hey @RR001

if you are using HubSpot free the main thing that you could do is update the records manually

or by re-importing the phone number already formated.

You can have the country code in the phone format property or If you need a special formatting you can create a custom property.

With workflows or with Operations Hub Pro you could have automations that normalize this numbers automatically.

I’d try to teach the team who’s importing data to do it properly so that in the future the phone numbers are right.

You can also check 3rd party tools like Zapier but not sure how far can you get with the free version.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - so as long as my phone number is Imported (uploaded) to HubSpot in this format, I should be OK?

Hey @RR001

I think so, as long as the country and area code is complete

you should be able to click on it and make a call.

You can create a test contact with that number a try calling from HubSpot and see how it works.

👋Hi, I’m Rachel from the HubSpot Product team. An update - phone number property validations are now in private beta. You’ll now be able to set validation rules for phone number properties to ensure they match E.164 format. Additionally, you will be able to set a default country code for phone number properties that will automatically be applied to updates to phone numbers via Import. If a phone number is missing a country code but is valid based on the other requirements, the selected country code is added automatically before the value is saved. Request access to the beta **[here](https://app.hubspot.com/l/product-updates/?update=13980255).**
