I’d love to see HubSpot make Total Opens and Total Clicks available as standard metrics in both on-screen reports and exports.
Unique metrics are valuable for measuring reach, but they don’t tell the full story for editorial newsletters and content-driven emails with multiple articles or CTAs. If a subscriber opens an email three times and clicks four different links over several days, that’s meaningful engagement that unique metrics largely ignore.
For publishers, content marketers and newsletter teams, total metrics help answer questions like:
- Which emails generated the most engagement?
- Which content drove repeat visits?
- How much traffic did a newsletter actually generate?
Please consider adding:
- Total Opens and Total Clicks as report/export columns
- Sorting and filtering by total metrics
- Aggregate reporting using total engagement data
Unique metrics tell us how many people engaged. Total metrics tell us how much engagement occurred. Both matter.
Hi @JTMassey,
The best place for these kinds of suggestions (which is monitored by the product team) would be the ideas section of the community. Here is the idea that @JTMassey created (thank you!) " Feature Needed: Include Total Opens & Total Clicks in HubSpot Reporting & Exports " so that other Community Members can upvote and comment on it as well!
Best regards
Hey @JTMassey, I hope that you are well!
Thanks for posting on the HubSpot Community, and thanks so much @karstenkoehler for pointing @JTMassey to the right direction!
I’d like to add these similar topics which might work for you as a workaround:
I hope this helps in the meantime! Let me know if you have additional questions, I am here for you!
Have a wonderful day!

Thanks, @Berangere. Those are definitely helpful workarounds and better than manually opening individual emails to capture total engagement data.
My suggestion is less about access to the data and more about efficiency. Since Total Opens and Total Clicks are already tracked by HubSpot, it would be extremely useful to have them available as native columns in the email performance dashboard and exports, alongside unique metrics.
For content-driven newsletters with multiple articles and CTAs, total engagement is often just as important as unique engagement. Having those metrics visible at a glance would make reporting and content analysis significantly faster and more actionable.
Actually, as I review the custom report data against the manual lookups I’ve done, I see the sums of opens/clicks are still uniques, not totals.
Hey @JTMassey, thanks for sharing these additional details! Also, I am really glad to hear that the workarounds helped!
As @karstenkoehler suggested, I’d recommend creating an idea in our Ideas Forum so other Community Members can upvote and comment on it. Also, this will bring more visibility to it.
Your feedback is really valuable and means a lot to us! Don’t hesitate to share the link to your idea on this topic so that I can also upvote it.
Thank you and have a lovely day!

Would love to have an upvote @Berangere ! Thanks for your help. The data is already there (in the email performance metrics’ view); it seems a light lift to make it a filter and exportable.
Hey @JTMassey, thanks so much for creating the idea, love to see this!
I have just added my upvote on it
And you’re very welcome, my pleasure!
I look forward to seeing you around the Community @JTMassey!
If you have any other questions, just create a new topic, we are here for you!
