**Background:**

Currently, a content editor would need to know the exact padding in rem and colors in hex to adjust a section to their liking. I would like to provide content editors with a simple to choice menu to apply theme colors or default padding and max width configurations along with the necessary breakpoints. I have also created sections according to design specifications that cannot be achieved with the style editor and require a CSS class to be added to the section. I am able to achieve this with the modules configuration so that content editors can change color themes (light, dark, etc) with the click of a dropdown, but I would like to see this capability in sections so I don’t have to create a bunch of sections with styles prepoluated for each.

**Requirements:**

As a developer I would like to add custom fields to a section so that content editors may select premade styles for sections.

The fields should follow the fields.json currently in modules, which would mean sections would be directories with respective css and fields.json in each.

Desperately needed. I end up creating so many clunky javascript workarounds to get sections to behave the way I’d like. One thing I’ve noticed is that HubSpot documentation says you can apply custom CSS [classes to sections](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/cms/building-blocks/templates/drag-and-drop-areas/sections#section-classes) inside of coded templates. But I have not been able to get that to work.

@Sasha-A8
That’s exactly my impetus for this feature request. I’m using classes and theme fields to apply standard padding and define CSS vars. Currently, I have many separate sections with the classes on them for the different colors and layouts so that editors can drop in a section with a colored background using theme colors. Ideally, I could just add a choice dropdown that would allow them to apply a class selector (eg section--black-bg) and change the appearance of the section. I have this functioning with my modules but I realize the strucutre is very different and hubspot CMS seems geared towards DIY section creation. Since I’m a developer, I can just provide content editors with ready made sections they can drop modules into rather than them trying to remember the hex codes for their brand colors and adjusting padding on the fly.

I cosign this idea, it’s really needed and would improve the developer and content editor experience a lot.

@EdCupaioli as a workaround I’ve started creating custom section styler modules. With some clever css selectors (such as :has), I’ve made modules that you can drop into a section that let you style it indepentently. The best use case for this is adding multiple backgrounds. Sometimes I need an overlay AND a background image. Or maybe I want all the text in that section a specific font.
I’ve also started doing this for drag+drop columns too. Adding corner radius/borders or turning them into accordions for example. This lets me create things like cards that support drag and drop content inside.
