Hello,
I am creating automated workflows for my transactional emails, and as i am using deal personalization tokens, i have to set my workflow as deal based workflow. Is there a guaranteed approach to exclude a certain contact type from my deal based workflow ? So that the email wont reach everybody associated with that deal ?Certain contact types should be strictly excluded from the workflow, and i want to know if this is possible in a deal based workflow.
I am targeting one specific contact type in the worfklow by specifying the contact type, but the other contact types associated within the deal got the email as well.

Thank you,

Hi @ChrisChiha,

Until a while ago, the best solution for this kind of problem was to re-create the deal-based workflow as a contact-based workflow (which isn’t possible in all but a lot of cases).

Now there has been a product update, [flexible associations and association labels](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/crm-setup/associations-enhancements-beta). These labels let you define which contacts in a deal-based workflow should receive an email:

If you want to be able to filter for contact properties however, you’d have to recreate the workflow as a contact-based workflow. That is the only way to gatekeep which contacts should or should not receive emails.

Best regards!

The problem when i create a new contact based workflow, it wont let me pick my email template as it contains deal based personalization token.
I will go for the association labels. I added it to my workflow, but can you please give me a hint on how to add labels to certain contacts?

Hi @ChrisChiha,

You can edit these labels on the deal record. In the right sidebar, find the _Contacts_ section, hover over a contact, click _More_ and _Edit association labels_.

Keep in mind that this is still in beta and might behave buggy. I’d recommend thorough testing.

Best regards!

Wow great, that’s a nice feature.
One final QQ please. Do you think i can have associated labels populate automatically for certain contacts in deal, when a deal is created ?
This way when a deal is created, the contact with contact type “CEO” for example will have the label “CEO” and he will be excluded from my email workflow acordingly.

Hi @ChrisChiha,

Association labels are a fairly new feature, I don’t think this is possible yet.

Best regards!
