My understanding is that a contact will receive marketing emails only when they are marked as marketing contact AND are part of a Deals pipeline. Is there a way to add contacts that I want to send marketing emails to a list and be able to send these marketing emails to them - without adding them to a pipeline?

Contacts do not have to be associated to a deal to be eligible to receive marketing emails. An associated deal in a pipeline is not a requirement.
You might have some custom deal based workflows set up which include automated marketing emails, yes. But marketing email sending is also possible and usually mainly done outside of deal based workflows.

If there was a workflow, you would find it under Menu > Automation > Workflows. Depending on your permissions you might have access to this section of the tool or not.
Without access to your portal it’s unfortunately not possible to say whether this is set up or not.
Can you maybe share what makes you think this is the case?

Unless someone made an effort to set up specific workflows and very clear instructions for how to use those workflows, the usual way to create emails would still be this: Create and send marketing emails

Hello. We have Sales Professional only. We do not have the Marketing Hub.
I have read a lot of material and it appears the only way to send say 2,500 emails to a list of Hubspot contacts is through Marketing. Am I wrong? Can I send 2,500 emails or even blocks of 500 through Sales Professional?

Answer: Yes, you can send them marketing emails either by eblast or via workflow.
- You can import the list of contacts (if not available in the system). And add that list as a trigger critera to send the email.
- If contacts are already availble in the instance choose a common critera to create the list of those contacts and trigger that list in workflow/in eblast
