Idea Description:
We work in two different environments for our SaaS tool – one for our production (Prod) environment and another for our non-production (non-Prod) environment. As a user, it is crucial for me to clearly distinguish between these environments to prevent any inadvertent modifications or actions in the wrong environment. While the existing banner and the account name displayed in the top right corner do serve as indicators of the current environment, they are subtle and can easily be overlooked.
Hence, I propose the admin UI tool be enhanced to allow users to visually reconfigure the admin interface based on the environment they are operating in. Specifically, it would be greatly helpful if the interface allowed for color-coding, so that, for example, the background / sidebar/ header / something is lightly colored red for the Prod environment and maintained as-is for the non-Prod environment. This would provide a clear, hard-to-miss visual indicator of the current environment, thereby minimizing the risk of any mishaps due to actions performed in the wrong environment.
Having this level of customization would not only improve the user experience but also contribute to safeguarding the integrity of the work we do in these different environments. Given that it is currently not possible to customize the UI through CSS controls or otherwise, this feature suggestion is directed towards the development of such a functionality within the product.
Justification:
The ability to customize the admin interface for different environments would significantly enhance the product’s usability. This would be especially beneficial for organizations that work with multiple environments and would serve as an additional safeguard against inadvertent modifications or actions in the wrong environment.
Potential Impact:
The feature would increase user efficiency and minimize errors due to the clearer distinction between different environments. Furthermore, it would enhance the user experience and provide additional flexibility in how users interact with the tool.
We look forward to seeing this feature implemented and believe it would be a great value-add to the existing product. Thank you for considering our suggestion.
