Email sent after a contact was Unenrolled from a sequence

I unenrolled some contacts from a sequence but they ended up getting a sequence email a few hours later. I am the Huspot admin.
Any ideas what may have happened? Are sequence emails queued by Hubspot and unenrolling doesnt effect those?
I am at a loss why this is happening - anyone have the same issue?
Thanks, Mike

Hi @RhoadesM,

There have been some threads in the community in the past, if I recall correctly, coming to the concultion that sequence emails are queued and in the process of being sent, typically seconds or minutes within their scheduled send time, when HubSpot is not able to stop the send anymore.

This could be similar to report sending behavior where HubSpot acknowledges that report data might be outdated for up to two hours.

Multiple hours to cancel a sequence email send do however sound a bit too high and I’d recommend discussing this with HubSpot support, in-app, via chat or email – assuming that you have ruled out other causes (other sequences having sent this email, for example).

Best regards!

Yes… thank you for the response.

Hi @RhoadesM,
if a sequence email is already queued (like, it’s scheduled and ready to go), unenrolling the contact doesn’t always stop that next one from sending. It’s kind of annoying, honestly.

I usually make sure to unenroll contacts well before the next email is due, and I double-check their timeline to cancel anything still pending. Learned that the hard way too.

Might be worth checking your Audit Log if you’re an admin it’ll show exactly when the email got queued vs. when you unenrolled the contact. That’s helped me figure out weird cases like this in the past.
