Email has been unsuccessfully sent 1.120 times to unconfirmed contacts

We have multiple automated emails that are sent upon form submission. We have been receiving these errors and now it is getting out of hand.
The error is that HubSpot keeps trying to send automated emails, before the users verify their mail address (double opt-in) so they don’t deliver.
I believe the solution to this is turning on the GDPR settings, but I’m not 100% sure of it. Could you help me find a solution? If turning on the GDPR settings is the right action to take, what would be the best practices you recomment?

Thanks a lot!

Hi @CYapici,

The fix for this should be to simply add a “AND Marketing email confirmation status” is any of “User clicked confirmation” or “Customer marked confirmed” to the enrollment criteria of your workflows that send the automated emails.

That way, the workflow will wait until the email address is confirmed.

If you can share a screenshot of the exact error message, I can elaborate, if needed.

Best regards

Hello @karstenkoehler ,

Thank you for your answer. We are currrently using the simple workflow that is on the last tab of form creation and it isn’t possible to add an “AND” there. I could create workflows from stratch and set them up as you suggested. But is this the best way to go?

Here you can seee a screenshot as well.
Thanks a lot! Best,

@CYapici yes, this is indeed the best practice for workflows in portals with enabled double opt-in :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks a lot! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @CYapici :slightly_smiling_face:
I think that activating the GDPR settings is a good start, but to solve your problem the objective will first be to check the emails with tools like https://mailtester.ninja/
Once this is done, and you have removed the bad emails, you will no longer have this problem.
