Drop Down List Options of a Form

I am creating a Drop Down List for a form as a Field Type (i.e., including labels) of a custom proeperty. If I select the Clear All options link, will it delete the custom name of the labels along with the ‘internal names’

Hi @MAMBuckland,

If you’re referring to this…

… then that’s expected behavior. By clicking “Clear all options”, you’re not removing a selection that you made before submitting the form. You’re deleting all existing options in the backend, as an admin.

Best regards

What do you mean by the backend? Does that mean that option no longer exists anywhere on my customized Form?

@MAMBuckland if you clicked the option shown in my screenshot and then saved the property, then correct, these options are not shown anymore on your form.

Do they still exist anywhere? I found out that you cannot delete “internal names” which automatically generate. Also, you cannot delete option 1 by 1, only the whole list of options which is horrible.

@MAMBuckland you cannot change internal labels, correct, but you can still delete them – if that’s what you did, then HubSpot will keep the values on those records that had submitted the form. But there is no recycle bin or any way to recover the options if you cleared them all and saved your changes.

I just noticed if I select one of the options, it provides the option to delete that specific one. Therefore, Clear All Options is not the only option to delete which is great.

What do you mean by “keep those values”? When you say “still delete them”, do you mean the ‘internal name’ will no longer exist?

@MAMBuckland if a contact record had the value ‘A’ in a field, and then you delete the value ‘A’ from the property settings, the value ‘A’ will still be on the contact record but cannot be manually selected again. Deleting a value from the dropdown in the settings does not delete it from all records that have that value.

What about ‘internal name’? When you say “still delete them” in your 5th Reply above, do you mean the ‘internal name’ will no longer exist?

@MAMBuckland when you delete the option, it’s gone. You can still re-add it with the same internal label but you would have to do that manually, there’s no way to recover previously deleted options.

Just to confirm/clarify, even if you delete any options, the Internal Name still exists? Let’s say I accidentally deleted an option and then want to re-add it which would automatically generate the same option label, will it automatically duplicate the ‘internal name’?

@MAMBuckland if you delete it, save, then re-add it with the same internal label, HubSpot will accept that, yes.

Which would mean it overwrites the ‘internal name’ [last was automatically generated]? As it notes in the Knowledge Base section, you cannot delete 'internal names.

@MAMBuckland I’m not sure which knowledge base you’re referring to?

This is the behavior:
You cannot edit internal names.

Once deleted, you can re-add it.

Another question regarding the Drop Down options. Can I create a sub-section? Here is an example:
Option 1. Media:
* Social
* Management
* Multimedia
* Streaming
Option 2: Technology
Option 3: Education

@MAMBuckland not within one property, but two: Limit available options based on a controlling property

Let’s say I want to put 3 options underneath Administration as types (1. Business, 2. Contract, 3. Public), how would I do that?

@MAMBuckland did you review the article I shared? It contains step by step instructions.

If you’re getting stuck following the instructions, let me know where exactly.

The demo is kind of fast. I will watch it thoroughly. If you need any clarification, I will reach out to you.
