Domain Verification Issue – TXT Record Conflict on www Subdomain

I’m reaching out regarding the domain verification process for our app on HubSpot. We’re attempting to add the required TXT record to verify our domain, but we’re encountering an issue:

Our www subdomain already has a CNAME record, which is causing a conflict and preventing us from adding the required TXT record. As you may know, DNS standards don’t allow both a CNAME and a TXT record on the same subdomain.

Given this, we’d like to know:

  1. Is it possible to verify our domain using a TXT record on a different subdomain? For example, something like verify.ourdomain.com.
  2. If that’s not supported, are there any alternative verification methods we could use?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi @FelPP,

Typically the CNAME record would exist at the subdomain level but the TXT record, used for email sending verification, is set at the primary domain level.

For example - our HubSpot pages, blog, etc. is hosted at www, but our email sending is just set without the www. There are usually only CNAME or A records for the HubSpot-hosted pages.

Now, if you also want to send email from a subdomain instead of the primary, I would suggest using a different one than your HubSpot hosted assets. Referencing the example above, our www subdomain could host our blog, website pages, landing pages, etc. but we could use email.DOMAIN.com as our email sending domain and verify using the TXT record there without a conflict.

Hope this helps!
