With AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and other answer engines becoming part of how people discover information, I’m curious how everyone is approaching SEO in 2026.
Are you still prioritizing traditional SEO factors such as technical accessibility, internal linking, helpful content, and search intent, or are you shifting more resources toward AEO/GEO?
Google still recommends focusing on making content easy for search engines to crawl, understand, and discover, so I don’t think traditional SEO is disappearing. Instead, it seems to be becoming one part of a broader search strategy.
For reference, Google’s SEO Starter Guide has a useful overview of the fundamentals:
Google Search Central — SEO Starter Guide
I see AEO/GEO as an extension of SEO, not a replacement. Technical SEO, helpful content, search intent, and strong internal linking still provide the foundation. The main shift is creating clear, trustworthy, first-hand content that both search engines and AI answer engines can easily understand and cite.
Hi @ApexSaad
I think it’s less about choosing between SEO and AEO/GEO and more about expanding the definition of search visibility.
Traditional SEO fundamentals still matter
404 → broken/deleted URLs are handled properly
301 → preserve the path to relevant content when URLs change.
304 → help with caching and avoids unnecessary data transfers.
Crawlability/indexability —> make it easy for search engines
Internal linking —> understanding rerlatinship between pages
And i’d also like to watch out things like
Meta description → short HTML snippet summarizing a webpage’s content
Alt text image → Describing about the image
Not every technical issue is going to directly determine whether your content appears in an AI answer, but these fundamentals help search engines access, understand, and process your content properly.
And i believe the way we structure and showcase our expertise is changing. Providing clear answers, comprehensive coverage of topics, original insights, and content that truly addresses the user’s questions can enhance the chances of being found, whether through Google or an AI answer engine.
So for me, SEO is still the foundation, while AEO/GEO is becoming another layer on top of it rather than a replacement for traditional SEO.
Thank you
