Do I need HubSpot Enterprise to create new contacts in HubSpot via Segment Identify?

I’m trying to create new contacts in HubSpot via the Segment Identify method. It doesn’t seem to be working. Are we able to send events from Segment to HubSpot, creating contacts with the identify method, if we don’t have HubSpot Enterprise?

If we do happen to need Enterprise, how can I be sure it will actually solve our problem? Looks like this person has Enterprise and hasn’t figured it out: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/APIs-Integrations/Segment-Don-t-Update-Custom-Contact-Properties/td-p/294117.

My team is trying to launch a product and this is holding us up. Any/all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi @BKrill

Not sure why you would need an enterprise subscription to pass the data…

Are you receiving any errors? @lynton , @Kevin-C : Do you all have any experience in this area?

Hey @dennisedson I do not, but I am very curious about it!

In my travels through the Community, just came across this thread. Maybe @nigelqwilr has some insights?

HubSpot Enterprise is required to send “Enterprise Event” tracking to HubSpot. This is probably how the Segment integration is sending data to the HubSpot API.

There is a javascript “identify a visitor” api supported by all marketing hub editions here: https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/tracking_code_api/identify_visitor

It’s possible the native Segment integration is using APIs only supported by HubSpot Enterprise, so you might need help from their support team to understand which APIs they’re using.
