Different companies with the same domain

Hello Community,

We have a problem when creating a company which has the same domain as a previuos one. Hubspot doesn’t create a new company, but modifies the information from the previous one (keeps the same record id for the company). We need a new company to be created although the domain already exists. ¿Is there any way to do this?

Thanks.

Hi @MRomero43,

How exactly are your users creating companies?

When creating a new company manually with an existing domain, HubSpot will point that out to - but still let you create a “duplicate” record.

Best regards

Hi @karstenkoehler,

We create companies through a form linked to a contact previuosly created. I suppose the problem must be the contact email domain.

Thank you.

Hi @MRomero43,

Through a form submission, HubSpot can’t know whether you want to merge or create a new record. The identifier (the domain) is suggesting it belongs to the same record.

I’d recommend you don’t create records through a website form but through the CRM interface: Create companies

Hi @karstenkoehler
I see your suggestion. But on an IMPORT of many records for franchise locations, where you want the website url plus the unique company name as the ID, who is one supposed to do an import?

Hi @KFarn, I hope you’re having a great day!

I wanted to check, does your question relate to this thread “How to Import A New Company in Hubspot that Shares a Domain With an Existing Company”?

We want to make sure we’re supporting you as effectively as possible.
I also noticed that you’ve opened a ticket with our Support Team, which is definitely the best way to get this resolved quickly.
I recommend continuing to work with them to keep things streamlined and avoid any duplicate efforts.

Thank you, and please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help!

Hey @MRomero43

for Companies the website URL/domain is the unique data (just as you passport number)

there shouldn’t be 2 different companies with the same domain.

The only exceptions come with Big companies with subsidiaries or branches.

In this case the correct procedure is to use the association of parent child companies (but is mostly manually) Here is another post on hoe to handle this.

But coming to your way of creating with form, the duplication problem will remain. I’d suggest creating just the contact with the company name and the associating with the company later in the CRM to avoid the duplication.

Hope this helps
