Deals - custom field for multiple amounts

Hi there, we are in the process of onboarding a new business unit onto HubSpot, this BU will have it’s own pipeline and the information collected against deals is also different.

We’ve received an internal request to add additional fields to represent varying deal amounts. As well as the standard “amount” field which will align to the final deal amount/value, the request is to have another field that represents the proposed budget which often differs from the final budget amount on any given project. The request is in place so that the BU can monitor these differences.

I’d like to ask the community whether there are any potential negative implications of adding this as a custom field against the deal?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @LBennett7,

No, no concerns there – it’s not uncommon for there to be multiple amount-related fields on a deal. Newly created fields do not affect existing processes.

Just keep in mind that any custom number fields, formatted as currency, will not be referenced by any of the HubSpot default processes (like forecasting).

Also keep in mind that you can perform mathematical operations on number fields using calculation properties: Create calculation and rollup properties

Hope this helps!

As @karstenkoler mentioned, there’s no issue with adding additional amount properties at the deal level, but keep in mind that standard reports will work with the standard properties. such as the deal amount, total contract value, etc.

That being said, some examples of properties are the following:

- proposed budget

- revenue (which can be just a copy of the deal amount value or be different - highly depends on the process)

- cost

- profit (revenue - cost calculated property)

and so on.

Check here the default deal properties, especially the amount ones, to make sure you don’t duplicate an existing property.
