When I export contacts or companies in order to get the record ID, any character with an Umlaut is transformed in a weird one (square root something). That means I need to manually put back the Umlaut characters each time I export. Is there a better way?

I assume that you’re experiencing this when opening a CSV file?
If so, you can easily work around that by opening Microsoft Excel, going into the ribbon tab Data, then click Get Data > From File > From Text/CSV.
Follow the steps. Excel should now display the special characters correctly.
