Hi Community,
I’m hoping to get some insight on the following. I’m looking to implement a few custom fields into my Deals object.
- Prospect Decision Maker / Budget Holder
- Prospect Champion
- Quote
For the first 2, I understand that contacts can be associated to deals natively and is a core function. However, is there a way that I can turn these above fields into contact fields?
For Example, my desired behavior is this:
- Prospect Decision Maker / Budget Holder Field is blank
- Click into field
- Select a Contact to populate the field
Today, I’ve just left these as open text fields to fill in as “John Smith” for example, but ideally if I could associate a prospect to this title, that would be great.
The 3rd bullet is looking for the same outcome, just with quotes associated to the deal.
Thank you!
Hey @BLeung6 - thanks for posting in the Community!
I’d like to tag in some CRM experts here. @ChristinaKay, @IohranAraujo, and @MuseDebbie - any insight for @BLeung6?

Hi @BLeung6,
What you’re describing in point 1 and 2 would be handled through association labels, not contact properties: Create and use association labels
You can of course use contact properties for this, but then it will be a static field on the contact record. By using an association label, you’re describing the relationship between contact and deal. This also means that a person could hold different roles towards different deals, something that would not be possible through regular fields.
To your point 3, no, this is not possible – at least not in the exact same way as you’re describing. Typically, quotes would simply appear in the right sidebar of a deal record when created / associated. There isn’t any native field type in HubSpot that let’s you click into a deal property which then shows all created quotes.
That doesn’t have to stop you, of course, from using a regular single-line text field add manually adding the link to a quote into that field.
Best regards!
Hi @karstenkoehler @STierney
Once association labels are set up i.e. Key Decision Makers or Champion (Contact to Deal association) is there a way to make these required tags in the Deal Pipeline Workflow? (similar to the capabiliy of making certain deal properties required when moving a deal from stage to stage in the pipeline stages.
@BLeung6 not directly, unfortunately – which subscription level are you on?
Got it - that’s what I figured!

Hey @BLeung6,
Yeah, I’ve had this issue before. By default, HubSpot doesn’t let you “pick” a contact into a deal property, those fields only hold text. The cleaner way is to use contact association labels (like “Decision Maker” or “Budget Holder”), so you’re actually linking the real record instead of just typing in a name. That way you always have the right person tied to the deal.
For quotes, it works kind of the same, they link to deals, but you can’t drop them into a custom property. If what you’re really trying to do is use that info later (say in a proposal or contract), you might like this HubSpot + Google Docs integration. It can pull deal, contact, or quote details (even custom fields) right into a doc template, so you don’t have to retype things or chase details.
Hope that helps a bit. I know it’s not a perfect “click to select” field yet, but association labels + a doc workflow usually get people most of the way there.
Bye for now,
Tom
