Hello, first time poster. I was guided here from HubSpot support. I have a custom event that a developer created for us. We are guiding folks to take a quiz that was custom developeed and then the results, customer information, and completion status is passed to HubSpot. On the Contact Record I can see Custom Event and the data but I am not able to use that data in workflows (SEE PICTURE BELOW). Please advise. If any additional information is needed please let me know!

Hi @NShah6,

If you want to set it as a trigger in your workflows, you should be able to select a Contact-based workflow and set the trigger for “When an event occurs”

 ![evaldas_1-1738197183409.png](https://d2qpr2jzcazej7.cloudfront.net/original/3X/9/f/9fc0bd190292716186a9c52483084add75042f5b.png)

Once there, in the criteria, you should see a section called “Custom events” (usually at the bottom) and your custom event would appear there.

Hope this helps!

Hey there @evaldas thanks for your quick reply! I am able to find this to where i can trigger a work flow based on completion but if I wanted to update the contact record to have the person’s “Imbalance” and “Constitution” how would i do that? I am currently getting this data from that Custom Event.

If I understand correctly, you would like to update the two data points “Imbalance” and “Constitution” of that Custom Event occurrence, which has already happened and is present on a contact record?

If so, that is actually not possible because Custom Event properties are immutable, meaning they cannot be changed once set - similar to how analytics data cannot be changed once it is recorded.

@evaldas you are a genius and a gentleman. thanks for working with me on this. I really appreciate it. I didn’t realize that the event trigger also allows data to flow through to the other parts of the workflow. This was very helpful to see. thanks!

Hey @evaldas, No sir…We would like to take the 2 data points “Constitution” and “Imbalance” and update the individuals contact record. We would like to add the 2 event properties from the Custom Event to update a field on the Contact Record. So the person’s Imbalance that was extracted from the Custom Event Quiz will update the Contact Record. The other use case would be to use the event property from the Custom Event to use in an email the same way you would a contact property (i.e. First Name). I hope this helps better explain the issue.

Thanks for clarifying @NShah6. In this case, after you set up the Custom Event based trigger, you can set the “Edit record” action

![evaldas_0-1738210365549.png](https://d2qpr2jzcazej7.cloudfront.net/original/3X/f/8/f883036ff808da6102698c10a430d2129830e8fd.png)

Once there, you will keep record type as “Contact (Current Object)” and select which Contact property you want to edit. Then in “Choose a value”, you would select your Custom Event in the “Trigger event properties” section:

 ![evaldas_1-1738210387306.png](https://d2qpr2jzcazej7.cloudfront.net/original/2X/1/1c441d65f9787b71bb4ba0fb886c6d18bd1cb362.png)

Selecting the Custom Event there should give you access to that Custom Event’s properties and allow you to copy the value to the Contact record property:
