Hi @KellyLyon,
As a workaround, you could clone the email and set it to yourself to generate the web version link in those situations?
Best regards!
Interesting question @KellyLyon. Once the email is out and in the inbox of your intended audience, they have no way to know you’ve updated it have a web version. If you want it available for others, it would probably be a new email. Or if you wanted to share it in social media (like a newsletter), you could clone it like @karstenkoehler mentioned. Curious about the use case on this. What’s the situation you’re running into? How would recipients know the URL if it wasn’t on the original email they received?
One use case I have is after sending an email to a list — sometimes I want to be able to reference that email with a link in another communication. If I forgot to generate the web page on send, I have to go through a few steps to regenerate the email solely to get a web URL, vs. being able to generate one after the fact.
@KellyLyon , like @danmoyle , I’m also curious about the use case ![]()
Hypothetically, if you are posting the newsletter link on social to reach more people, wouldn’t you also want a way they could subscribe? If so, is that option in the newsletter you’re sending to people who are already subscribed?
Maybe a blog or LP version of the newsletter would be better, a sneak peek or preview perhaps, that allows them to engage with your website and convert if they want to sign up.
/// some thoughts on newsletters, but I might be a little biased
I’m a little anti-newsletter and weary of blog subscriptions, because it feels like an obligation instead of something that provides value. I personally only subscribe if I really love it, and if after 2-3 emails it isn’t what I expect, I’m out.
Email Marketing is one of the most powerful tools available, according to a post I just saw by StoryBrand, it averages a 4200% higher ROI and I’ve heard stats from Jay Schwedelson with subjectlines.com that it has the highest conversion rate - I’m just not convinced those stats include newsletters if they were isolated from the rest.
I had a manager really early in my career tell me that if we’re going to write a newsletter, we better have something really valuable to say - needless to say, in none of my marketing roles since have we ever pursued one (internal or external).
It brings me back around to buyer personas and the buyer journey - how likely is it that a recurring newsletter (weekly, monthly, quarterly or even annually) has something to offer regardless of what stage of the buyer journey you’re recipient is in?
I know Dan’s team puts together a really successful newsletter, so maybe he can share some stats to prove all of this wrong or insights into what makes a successful newsletter.
I have the same issue. My email templates are built with dynamic content so if I forget to create the web version and we come out with some new blog in the meantime, there is no way for me to re-create a web version from a cloned email. Now we want to create a website page with archives of our newsletters and we can’t since most of them we forgot to click the web version toggle.
Optionnaly, it would be great if it did create a web-version by default and you could un-check it if you don’t want one for whatever reason.
