Create new contact from Sales Funnel to Hubspot via Zapier - so many random fields.

Hi,

I’m new to Hubspot but have to link it with a sales funnel I’ve designed for a client.

I’m trying to create a ‘when new contact is created or updated create contact in Hubspot’ automation using Zapier.

The Trigger is straight forward but the Action is highly confusing.

When I get to the set up action tab, there are so many fields that don’t seem to have any bearing on the automation. things like Facebook Ads Proprties; Lead ads Properties; Calendly Properties; etc. I guess this is the way the client set it up

There are multiple properties for phone, email, name, etc. initially I chose all to see if the info goes through but when I test it Zapier displays a message saying that a contact has been created in Hubspot but when I search I can’t find it.

I am a super admin on hubspot and I have checked under various contact owners profiles in case the contact was going to another profile.

Having said that, when I created another new contact in the sales funnel, and went to check zapier history I get a "Stopped (Errored) message for that zap.

In the ‘data in’ section it shows: Contact already exists. Existing ID: 2551

But I cannot find it in Hubspot.

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated.

Hi @kytoung,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community!

I wanted to tag in a couple of subject matter experts to see if they have any input on this matter:

Hi @HubDoPete, @danmoyle, @Phil_Vallender, @SGowens, @Bryantworks, do you have any helpful tips for @kytoung?

Thank you!

Thank you @MiaSrebrnjak .

Hi @kytoung

Not sure why you are seeing messages to indicate the contact exists, but then cannot find it.

HubSpot treats the email address as a unique ID. You cannot create a contact if that email address already exists.

You might want to consider using the “create or update contact” action, as that will check if that email address exists and will update the record, if the contact does not exist, it will create it.

When you test that Zap action, the results screen should tell you the unique HubSpot ID of the contact record.

This URL will then display the contact if you want to view it:

https://app.hubspot.com/contacts/{HUBID}/contact/{CONTACTID}

I hope that helps

cheers

Pete

Thanks @HubDoPete.

That actually did work. I realised that this was the issue after much messing around.

Bang on.

Thanks Mate.
