Hi community. I couldn’t find this specific question on the boards so I hope I’m not repeating a previously asked questions.

Is it possible to create a custom field that identifies if a contact record was edited by a user or was edited in a workflow action? Specifically, I’m looking to identify who assigned contacts to owners.

Thank you

Hi @JChristoffers5,

With HubSpot’s out of the box features, it’s currently not possible to maintain such a field consistently _for both cases_.\* This would require working with a developer and the HubSpot API to see if something like this can be done.

Generally, if you want to see who changed the value in a property, you can always access the property history: [View a record's property history](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/records/view-record-property-history)

\* For just the workflow side of things, you could of course update your workflows to not just edit the record owner, but also a custom property right after. The question is how much value such a property would yield.

Best regards!
