It would solve a lot of structural issues for me if I could simply create a Custom Association, which would basically be another accordian viewport on the right side of a record that would allow me to associate one object with another with complete flexibility. The perfect example is trying to account for family relations. If I could create Custom Association - Parent, then search for two contacts to associate and pull into that view, I’d know exactly who that contact’s parents were when viewing. I don’t necessarily want to create custom objects to achieve this, as sometimes the object is the same, just THE RELATION to the record is different.
We have a similar need, where we have different “types” of person-to-company associations. For example, we have a group of companies that we call “Member Organizations”. Each of these may have several associated contacts, but two of those contact are considered the “primary” and “signer” contact and we’d like to be able to track this. We can’t do it on the contact record, because some of these contacts could be associated with mutliple companies (or they will be when that feature becomes available!), and reporting would not allow us to pinpoint for which company they are the primary.
