Hi there.

I worked through the steps to create a cookie consent banner pop-up on our site. Getting it to become active was easy; however, any changes I made to the styling, content, etc, do not seem to be acknowledged by our site or the system in general. The banner I created does not show on the site, and the url that the banner generated only shows a page not found.

Please help and let me know if I missed something…

Customized banner through settings:

Banner that shows on site:

Hi @ADonshik

You’re running into two separate but related issues:

1. The banner you styled doesn’t show on the site
2. The direct banner URL returns 404

I’ll outline the most likely causes and how to check them quickly.

* * *

## 1. Check that the banner is tied to the right domain & path

Go to **Privacy & Consent** \> **Cookies**.

For the domain where your site is hosted:

1. **Verify the domain is added and verified**

2. **Open “Manage banners” for that domain**

3. **Check URL path rules (Subdirectory / URL path)**

If the wrong domain or a too‑narrow path is set, you’ll see an older/default banner (or none) and it will look like your styling/content changes are ignored.

* * *

## 2. Make sure the banner is eligible to show for _you_ as a visitor

Even if the banner is correct, HubSpot may decide not to display it for your current visit:

1. **Geo-targeting / countries**

2. **You already accepted a previous banner**

3. **Tracking code & CSS on the site**

* * *

## 3. Why the banner URL shows “page not found”

The cookie banner is injected by the **HubSpot Tracking Code** on page load; it is **not** a standalone landing page. The “URL” you saw is usually:

- Either the URL/path rule where the banner is supposed to appear (e.g. `/fr`)
- Or a system/preview link that won’t be directly accessible like a normal page.

Seeing a 404 when you paste that URL into the browser just means there’s no actual page at that path; the banner would only appear there if an existing page with that path is rendered and the tracking code is loaded.

So the core checks are:

- Does that path actually correspond to an existing page on your site?
- Is the banner configured to target that domain/path, and published?

* * *

## 4. Why changes to styling/content don’t show

If you made styling/text edits but nothing changed on the live banner, typical reasons are:

1. **You edited a different banner than the one live on the domain**

2. **Brand / cookie policy mismatch**

3. **Browser or cache issues**

* * *

## 5. Quick diagnostic steps you can run now

1. Open **Privacy & Consent** \> **Cookies**.
2. For your production domain:
  - Click **Manage Banners**
  - Confirm:
    - The expected banner is listed and **published**
    - Domain and **URL path** match the URL where you’re testing
    - Country targeting either includes your country or is empty.

3. Open your site’s page in an incognito window (no extensions), with DevTools → Network tab open:
  - Confirm `js.hs-scripts.com` / `js.hs-analytics.net` requests are loading (HubSpot tracking code).
  - Reload and see whether a banner container is briefly added and then maybe hidden by CSS.

Regards
