Hi,

Can anyone tell me why my contact record ID numbering has suddenly changed for every new contact I add?

I use the record ID as the customers account and contract number in my day to day business.

I don’t think the record IDs are sequential numbers. I was only able to find this information on record id’s but it doesn’t appear they are an auto-increment field as you were anticipating ( [https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/crm/understanding-the-crm](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/crm/understanding-the-crm?_gl=1*1i2f7cr*_ga*MTYwMjUyNzYwNi4xNzEwMjgzODk5*_ga_LXTM6CQ0XK*MTcxMTE0Nzc1Ny4yMi4xLjE3MTExNDgyODQuNjAuMC4w)) . In this case, you could continue to use the ID as it will always be a unique identifier, or you could consider setting up your own unique ID property.

Yes, this is an update that was pushed live in March and is explained here: [Increasing the size of contact record IDs](https://developers.hubspot.com/changelog/increasing-the-size-of-contact-record-ids)

There is also an ongoing thread for discussing here: [https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Developer-Announcements/Increasing-the-size-of-contact-record-IDs/m-p/890611#M571](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Developer-Announcements/Increasing-the-size-of-contact-record-IDs/m-p/890611#M571)

Best regards!

Eurghhhh, this is rather annoying. I appreciate the need for updates but it’s going to cause chaos for my existing records and new ones!
