I just imported a small list of contacts and for some reason, the Company name for each of them is showing blank “--” even though when you go into the contact you can see which company they are associated with and likewise, when you go into the company profile, you can see that the contact is listed. Also worth noting that the company profiles were all created from the import so they are definitely linked, just not showing on the “contacts” view.
Hi Sarah. This is a common issue that takes a bit of getting your head around.
The contact record and the company record are two different objects.
The company name field is a property on the Contact record.
When you upload your contacts, where HubSpot can identify a company through the domain in the email address, it will create a company record. and will link the company and contact record together. See https://knowledge.hubspot.com/crm-setup/automatically-create-and-associate-companies-with-contacts
(Also note that this is an optional setting)
However, it does not update the Company Name property in the contact record. It would seem logical to do this, but it doesn’t.
A workaround if you have a version of HubSpot with Workflows, is to set up a company based workflow to copy the Company record Name property to the Contact record ‘Company Name’ Property. I’ve just tested this and it works. It would look like this.
