Conditional Property Logic - Events

Hi everyone,

We just recently gained access to conditional property logic. Are there any best practices for tracking events using this new tool? We have a couple of ideas, but I’m interested in hearing other ideas.

Controlling Property - Event

Dependent Property - Event Interaction (Invite, Attended, etc.)

Hi @SHinojosa3,

If you want to track how many events a contact or company is associated to and what the registration/attendance status is, a custom object would be a better option. It looks like you’re on an Enteprise subscription which includes custom objects: Create and edit custom objects

In terms of using conditional properties for events: Conditional properties are very useful when you’re asking sales reps to provide attribution information for their manually entered / sourced contacts. For example, if sales reps are supposed to enter contacts they meet at tradeshows, you could have them select a first-level source (event as a category besides onsite-visits, LinkedIn sourced contacts etc) and a second-level event source (dropdown of the events).

Best regards!

Thank you for your response.

I tried to use Custom Objects and it comes close, but then it creates a record for every entry I document on a contact record. This may create a large library of a custom object record. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Do you know if we would be able to report on the data collected in conditional property logic as a group? For example, How many deals were influenced by an event that contacts were invited to or attended?

Thank you for any insight you can provide. I notice this is something that is frequently asked about, but haven’t run across any solid solutions.

Hi @SHinojosa3,

You would be able to report on conditional properties but it would not be effective. You’re trying to document a one-to-many relationship in just a single record. Many events, one contact record.

This is hard to evaluate without knowing your exact setup and process step-by-step. What you’re looking for is likely that you want see event interactions on every contact record, with attendance status. This is something that custom objects can accomplish, by associating events custom object records to a contact record.

Do you know if there is a way to report on the association labels used in custom objects? If so, this might be a good solution.
