Is there a way to globally change the view of the main tab/view on the Companies and Contacts pages? I know you can create custom views, but want to customize the main tab that people see first and adjust columns, etc.. It seems to only save per user and not allow it to be changed for all users.

You’re correct, this is currently not possible. It would however be useful and you could request it from the product team by submitting a post to the HubSpot Ideas section: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/idb-p/HubSpot_Ideas
As far as workarounds go: Each filtered view has its own URL and can be shared within internal Slack, Teams etc channels. Once the view is dragged and dropped to the very left of all tabbed views, it becomes the default.
It’s not ideal but the URL per view makes it easier.
