Clients Unsubscribing from Emails Instead of Managing Preferences

Hello,

We are a B2B company that’s clients are under multi-year contracts. We send our clients marketing emails and customer communication emails.

Sometimes, they unsubscribe from a marketing email thinking they are only saying that they don’t want the marketing emails, but it unsubscribes them from the customer communications emails, too. Then, they aren’t receiving important customer information and they will email us asking why they aren’t receiving customer communications.

Is there a way to make it so unsibscribing from a marketing email only unsubscribes them from that? Because our clients aren’t naturally inclined to click the “manage preferences” link instead.

Hi @AHall80,

One option would be to simply not display the “Unsubscribe” link at the end of your emails and only display “Manage preferences”. (My reply does not constitute legal advice. That’s why you should check if this is compliant with legislation where you’re doing business.)

That way, the likelihood of them unsubscribing accidentally from all communication is lower.

Additionally, HubSpot has chosen to offer as an additional paid add-on transactional emails: How to Use Transactional Emails to Send Relationship-Based Emails in HubSpot

These emails are meant for commerce receipts, account updates, terms of service changes, and other essential business transactions. Emails with the transactional subscription type will override an unsubscribe and will be sent still.

Hope this helps!
