Changing stage automatically to the immediately prior stage?

I have stages for contacts, A, B, C, D and E. E is “Response Pending” I have a workflow that if a contact is at stage B, C or D and an incoming email or call comes in, the stage is set to “Response Pending” - is there any way to autotrigger based on an outgoing email being sent to have the stage reset to where it was prior?

For example contact is at stage C. They send email in. Stage is automatically set to “Response Pending”. We send them an email, the workflow automatically returns them to stage C (it would have to know what that was?). I assume not possible but wanted to ask.

ved - i created a new property

It rather sounds like you’re trying to re-create the functionality that is built in to Service Hub (which I thoroughly recommend you try out if you haven’t already, you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches!).

However to answer this specific issue you can use an associated activity (in your case a sales email) as a trigger criteria for a workflow. At which point you’d want to update the CRM property - remember to enable re-enrollment!

Hi @MConnelly3,

This is available out of the box if you’re working with tickets: Set up pipeline automations for objects

Unfortunately, HubSpot makes those workflow triggers only available as part of those system workflows and not anywhere else. The same criteria cannot be used to create contact-based workflows from scratch, unfortunately.

While there are workarounds (e.g. using active lists of contacts who last received an email in the last 24 hours / contacts who sent an email in the last 24 hours), these workarounds are not reliable enough for what you’re trying to do. In other words, it’s currently not possible to achieve this on the contact object. You would have to use tickets and the features linked above – which would however solve the entire question immediately.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions!
