# Changing Custom Object Secondary Display Properties via API

We are currently trying to change some property field types of a custom object for an upcoming integration. However we can’t update the field types for some properties because they have been set as secondary display properties.

It seems there is no way to change them manually but I’m wondering if it can be done via API?

Hi, @GBowman. Have you already tried editing the object schema? From this document? — [Update existing custom objects](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/crm/crm-custom-objects#update-existing-custom-objects).

“Once your custom object is defined:

- The `requiredProperties`, `searchableProperties`, `primaryDisplayProperty`, and `secondaryDisplayProperties` can be changed by updating the object’s schema. To set a new property as a required, searchable, or display property, you need to create the property prior to updating the schema.
- Make a `PATCH` request to `https://api.hubapi.com/crm/v3/schemas/{objectTypeId}`”

If you end up still stuck, drop your request and response to the above endpoint here, and we’ll see if the community has any additional ideas.

Hi [@Jaycee\_Lewis](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/127074), we tested this solution and were able to edit the secondary display properties. Thanks for your help.
