My custom-coded blog post template contains templateType: blog_post and isAvailableForNewContent: true, but it does not appear under Blog Settings → Templates → Blog Post Template → Change template. Only the default template appears. The file is in the "original" folder.
Hey @Hiro77,
Welcome to the community! ![]()
Thanks for sharing where you’ve looked so far. This could potentially be related to how the template is being detected in the Design Manager. A few things worth checking: the file location within your theme, whether the template has been fully published (not just saved), and whether there are any caching issues at play.
This thread may have some relevant context for you:
Unable to see drag and drop blog template in blog listing page.
Looping in some folks who may be able to help point you in the right direction!
Hey @Josh, @SteveHTM, @Alex_Boissonneault – do you have any suggestions for @Hiro77 on this?
Thanks!!

Thanks for looping me in @stassey!
Hey @Hiro77, welcome. I’ve hit this exact thing more times than i’d like to admit, so here’s where i’d look first.
Honestly my money is on the theme picker. When you click “Change template” in Blog Settings there’s a theme dropdown at the top that most people never notice. If your original folder is a copy or child of a marketplace theme, that dropdown is still sitting on the parent theme, and the parent only has its one default post template. Switch it to your folder. If your folder has no theme.json, scroll right to the bottom, there’s an “Other templates” section it gets dumped into. This was also what fixed it for the person in the thread Berangere linked.
If that’s not it, open the file and check line 1. Not roughly the top, literally the first line. The comment with templateType: blog_post and isAvailableForNewContent: true has to be the very first thing in the file. I’ve seen a single blank line or an {% extends %} above it make HubSpot silently treat the whole thing as a normal page template. No error, it just doesn’t show up anywhere blog-related.
Third thing, does the template actually have {{ content.post_body }} in it somewhere? Blog post templates need it, and if it’s missing (or there’s any other HubL error) Design Manager shows a red banner and pulls the file out of every picker, even though it looks published. Open it in Design Manager, look for the banner, then hit Publish again. Save on its own doesn’t cut it if you pushed it via the CLI and the upload half failed.
And the boring one, if you uploaded with hs upload, run hs accounts list and make sure you weren’t pushing to a sandbox. Happens to everyone once.
Whatever the cause, hard refresh the Blog Settings page after, that picker caches like crazy.
Hope it helps!
Hi @Hiro77
The settings look correct. I would first check if the template is published and there are no HubL errors in the file.
Also, make sure the template belongs to the theme your blog is currently using. The original folder should not be an issue by itself.
Try publishing the template again and refresh the Blog Settings page. If it still doesn’t show up, I’d check the template code and theme structure to see why HubSpot isn’t recognizing it as a blog post template.
I hope this helps you out. Please mark it as Solution Accepted and Like to help another Community member.
