Can't assign a list to an email that I've created.

I’ve created an email to send out to a small list of contacts and have created a list with the contacts that I’d like to send to. However, when I try to select the list I don’t see it. What am I doing wrong?

I go to Marketing > Email.

I click on the email that I’ve created, then Send or schedule in the top menu.

Then when I click on the Send to drop down menu I don’t see my list.

Thanks.

@JWynn9 Can you confirm that the list you created is based on “contacts” and not “companies”?

You can only email contact based lists as contacts have the email super-power.

Company based lists are used for reports, filters, workflows, etc. but can’t be emailed.

Hi @JWynn9,

There are typically two reasons why a list doesn’t show up:

  • The list is not contact based. This is the only type of list that can be emailed, company and deal lists cannot.
  • You haven’t refreshed the email editor since creating and saving the list. HubSpot does not always update the selection drop-down automatically.

Best regards!

Thanks Karsten, that’s probably it.

I had made a custom field for a particular type of company that I want to reach out to, that would include the few contacts that work at each of those. I assume that I have to create another custom field within the contact properties, seperate from the one I made for companies, even though they will have the same value?

@JWynn9 you can create a contact list filtering for contacts associated to companies with that property value.

To do so, create a contact list, click “Add filter” in the left sidebar and the sidebar should expand to the right. You should see a drop-down “Contact” which is often overlooked. Switch to “Company”, click “Company properties” below and find your field.

Best regards!
