# Cannot associate a note with a task

Hi

We are currently in the processing of bulk importaing a large amount of data from out in house platform to HubSpot, using various means.

As part of this I need to be able to create Tasks and Notes, and associate the two. On our system, a Task has multiple notes.

The problem seems to be that in HubSpot, I can associate Notes with various things, but not Tasks.

This is odd as in the UI I can comment on a Task, which reveals a Note like UI. I can’t seem to find how these comments are stored or if they are available in the API in any way.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is what I am doing possible?

In HubSpot, while you can comment on tasks through the UI, which appears similar to notes, these comments are not directly accessible or associated with tasks via the API. HubSpot’s API currently does not support associating notes with tasks. Instead, you can only associate notes with contacts, deals, companies, or tickets. To work around this, you could create a custom property or use task descriptions to store related notes, but direct note-task associations are not supported via the API.

In HubSpot, while the UI allows you to comment on tasks, creating a note and associating it directly with a task via the API isn’t currently possible. The “comments” on tasks are likely treated as a part of the task’s details, but HubSpot doesn’t expose these comments as standalone “notes” in the API. You can associate notes with other objects (like deals or contacts), but there’s no direct API support for associating notes with tasks. To work around this, you might need to store the notes separately and link them in a custom way within your system or wait for HubSpot to introduce more API flexibility in this area.
