Can Pixels/Ad Accounts be assigned to Business Units?

My team has two business units both of which utilize facebook and google ads, thus we have four ad accounts connected to HubSpot. The issue that I have run into is that our HubSpot tracking code runs all four of these accounts.

Now our google analytics page is pulling in data from both sites, and I can’t even seem to separate the traffic data that are presented within HubSpot. The data on Facebook were having the same issue but I was able to edit which domains traffic data should be pulled from so at least I can see some non-convoluted data there.

I think this could be resolved by having the option to select which business unit each ad account should be associated with. I would like to be able to see traffic and ad data within HubSpot, but until this issue is resolved I think I will need to remove the HubSpot tracking code and simply insert the native tracking codes from FB and Google.

If I’m missing something here, please advise.

Hello, @DeanFrazier, great question! I will add some top experts to share their ideas, @Jonno_Price @KTownsend @Daniel_Bleich any recommendations to @DeanFrazier?

Thank you!

Pam

Thank you @PamCotton!!

I am happy to talk through any additional details if needed, as well.

Hi there! Have you tried installing the HubSpot tracking code using Google Tag Manager? Depending on how your exact setup is, you should be able to create filters and different containers to seperate the data streams.

Also, Google Tag Manager streamlines the process and makes installing tracking codes a LOT easier. It’s also super fast when adding multiple tracking codes.

I may have misunderstood your actual question, so if I did, don’t hesitate to respond and I’ll help ya out the best I can!

Thank you for the response! It sounds like you are tracking with me, and I think that is a good idea!

On Google Tag Manager, would it be as simple as creating a custom html tag using the HubSpot tracking code and setting the triggering to all pages? I already have google analytics, facebook pixel, and a conversion linker set up within GTM.

Ideally I would be able to view my facebook and google ad data on HubSpot and I’m not sure if using the HubSpot tracking code within GTM would accomplish this. If you have any further suggestions, please let me know.

I would say that it *should* be that easy. However, we both know sometimes digital marketing doesn’t work that way :joy::joy:

Set it up to trigger on all the pages, but I would think that setting up two seperate containers, each with different Google and FB tracking codes, but putting the HubSpot tracking code in both. Then when you have that setup it should provide a way for you to seperate the data streams. We’re getting pretty technical here and I haven’t tried such a solution personally, so let me know what you think!

Also, there’s really only one way to find out if anything works in digital marketing…TEST IT! Spend the 30 minutes or so setting this up and give it a spin!

I have the tracker set up in GTM and Chrome HubSpot Analtics Extension recognizes it and allows for me to create custom events. It seems to be working, but I will need to do some testing and debugging with it.

I really appreciate your help! Thank you!

Sweeeeeeet! :raising_hands:

Let me know how it goes!

The other business unit on our account didn’t have GTM and is now in the process of setting that up. I’m hopeful that this will work for us. I made some flow charts to visualize the progression of this problem, and the proposed solution. I still find it strange that HubSpot would have separate tracking codes for each business unit, but not have the option to designate external tracking pixels.

Dude… @DeanFrazier that is an absolutely AWESOME flow chart! Did you use a tool to help you build it? I love how you were able to map out EXACTLY what I was thinking! We should work together sometime :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Also, you might want to post this graphic over to the idea community here: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Ideas/ct-p/ideas

With a flow chart like that, there’s no way they can ignore it. Right @ThatChristinaG ?!?!

Hey @DeanFrazier !

Just wanted to check in and see how this worked out for you. What solution did you end up going with?
If it worked out for you, feel free to mark this question as solved so we can close it out for the rest of the community!

was this problem ever fixed?

Hi @Dean I am currently facing this issue with business units and am wondering if this ever worked for you and how difficult it was to set up? Hubspot still does not have solution for this and directed me to this forum for some assistance.

I know business units have come a long way since this post was written. Wondering if there’s a more built-in solve for this now? @karstenkoehler do you know?

Hi, wondering if there are any updates on whether pixels can be assigned to different business units?
