Can HubSpot become ITAR-compliant?

My company is a small to mid-size contract manufacturer. We partner with lots of industries, with aerospace being our newest one to contract with. Although HubSpot is our preferred CRM, CMS, and service tool, we won’t be able to grow and digitize with it unless the system offers some form of ITAR compliance. Whether that’s through using AWS Gov Cloud or some other type of secure server situation. But it would be great for them to offer that!

It’s great that you’re looking to leverage HubSpot for your business. While HubSpot is a powerful platform, achieving ITAR compliance is crucial for companies like yours, especially in aerospace. To address your concern, you might want to consider exploring options like using AWS Gov Cloud or other secure server solutions, which can help meet ITAR requirements. Additionally, consulting with experts familiar with NIST 800-171 compliance could provide valuable insights into making HubSpot more ITAR-compliant.By combining the right technology and expertise, you can ensure that your digital transformation aligns with the necessary security and compliance standards, allowing your company to grow in the aerospace industry.

Absolutely — ITAR compliance is a major hurdle for any organization working in defense, aerospace, or handling controlled technical data. HubSpot’s standard infrastructure doesn’t currently meet ITAR regulations, and that can pose challenges for both CRM use and any document sharing functionality.

That said, if your concern is focused primarily on secure file management and ITAR-sensitive documents, there’s a way to address that without overhauling your entire system.

The Box Connector by SparkGrid Software enables HubSpot sites (including portals and memberships) to securely deliver files to contacts while storing those files in your own Box environment — which can be configured for ITAR compliance if your Box instance is set up that way.

Key highlights:

  • Files never touch HubSpot’s file manager
  • Access is based on HubSpot contact properties or list memberships
  • Strict permission control, download logging, and full audit trails
  • Works seamlessly inside your existing HubSpot portal interface
  • Keeps HubSpot as your front-end without risking non-compliant storage

You can find it on the HubSpot App Marketplace: HubSpot Marketplace

While it doesn’t make HubSpot fully ITAR-compliant on its own, it’s a strong workaround for teams that need compliant document sharing today. If you need help evaluating whether this approach fits your governance model, happy to share more details.
