Can emails be sent to list without having a subscription?

For example, our Events and International departments will often send out invites to events from a list they provide.

Can the emails be sent to the list without having a “Events Subscribers” subscription created.

Hi @SDormann,

Yes, HubSpot lets you send marketing emails to contacts even if the contacts do not have an opt in for the subscription selected in the settings tab of the marketing email editor.

You do however always have to select a subscription in the email editor settings, this cannot be skipped.

But, essentially, HubSpot will by default only reference that subscription to check if contacts have opted out of it and should this be excluded.

The only exception to the behavior above is the “Legal basis required” setting in the GDPR settings. If this is enabled, HubSpot requires not just the absence of an opt out but an actual opt in. Manage data privacy settings in your HubSpot account

Hi:

Following up on this, I’m seeing in Hubspot Knowledge base, a contact has to be on the subscription type selected on the marketing send - or else they won’t receive the email. Which seems opposite of what you said above?

How can I:
A) See the full list of who is on a specific subscription type? not just contact by contact?
B) Ensure everyone on the list receives, even if they aren’t on a subscription type?
Thanks!
Kerri

Would be great to get an answer to this.

We are in the process of migrating to HubSpot. In our previous email system, we could import a list of email and send directly to them. Are we able to do that in HubSpot, or is it manatory that these emails also need to be set up in a Subscription?

Hi @SDormann,

Marketing emails have to reference a subscription type. It’s not possible to send a marketing email that does not have a subscription type. By default, contacts do not have to have an opt-in for the selected subscription type to receive the email.
