# Bulk import documentation

Hello, I’m just getting started with HubSpot and need to bulk import contacts. Unfortunately [the API](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/crm/imports) doesn’t seem to be fully documented.

What is idColumnType, and which types of data need it? For example, email gets HUBSPOT\_ALTERNATE\_ID for its idColumnType, but what about a phone number?

What does the associationIdentifierColumn do? For example, I would have expected the Company field to have this set to true, since I assume it’s being used to create an association?

Need help!

I am checking in with the Dev docs team to see what is going on here.

In the meantime, check out the [older version](https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/crm-imports/start-a-new-import) which will have your answers (even though it is older, it is still relevant)

Thanks so much for that reference @dennisedson! That does answer my questions, the older doc has much more info!
