Bulk create leads from contacts – auto-fill lead name?

When I bulk create leads from contacts (e.g. select 10 contacts → “Create lead”), I’m forced to enter a lead name. But obviously, I don’t want all 10 leads to have the same name. Ideally, the lead name should be the contact’s name.

Is there a way to auto-fill the lead name with the contact name? Or remove the required field? Any workaround?

Thanks!

Hi @COHagan8,

The best workaround would probably be a workflow:

  1. Create a contact-based workflow: Create workflows
  2. Keep enrollment criteria empty
  3. Use the ‘Create record’ workflow action to create a lead record

Once you have this part set up, you can from now on manually enroll any contacts into this workflow which will create leads following your desired naming convention: Manually enroll records in workflows

Additionally, you could request better naming options for the bulk leads creation that you mentioned in the HubSpot Ideas section of the community: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/idb-p/HubSpot_Ideas

Best regards!

Hi @karstenkoehler

Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

What I’m really looking for is a way to automatically populate the Lead Name field in the Lead creation UI (the sidebar that opens when you manually or bulk-create leads from contacts). Ideally, this field would be prefilled with the contact’s first and last name, so users don’t have to type it manually each time.

I understand workflows can create leads with dynamic naming, but in this case, I’m specifically referring to the standard HubSpot lead creation panel, where we still have to fill out the Lead Name manually — which leaves room for inconsistent naming and is time-consuming at scale.

Is there currently any way to auto-populate that field, or something similar?

Best regards,
Conor

@COHagan8 not that I know of, hence the suggestions to submit a HubSpot Idea in my previous reply. Best regards!
