Bulk Contact Tasks - How to auto associate task with the Company

Is there a way to modify the options in Bulk Task Assigning to include whast you want it to associate with - In particular the COMPANY?

@Victor_Becerra

Hi @aabyrne99 :waving_hand:

Thanks for tagging me — that’s a great question, and bulk task associations can definitely feel limiting.

I’d like to invite a few Community members who are subject matter experts in tasks, associations, and workflow automation to join the conversation.
@karstenkoehler @Karushna1 @Brenner_Natal — hope you’re all having a great week! Have you seen any supported way to control or extend bulk task assignment so tasks auto-associate with the Company (not just contacts/deals), or is this currently a product limitation? Any recommended patterns or workarounds would be really helpful here.

Appreciate any insights you can share.
Best,
Victor

Hey @Victor_Becerra Victor, thanks for looping me in on this conversation.

@aabyrne99 To recap the use case a bit more clearly from my side:

The limitation you’re running into is real: HubSpot’s bulk task creation from the contacts view does not currently let you directly choose Company as an association target the way it does Contacts and Deals.

What’s possible natively today

- When you bulk create tasks from a contact list/view, those tasks will associate only with the selected contacts (and optionally deals) by design; there is no toggle to add the primary company to all those tasks in one step.

- On the company record, you’ll still see activities via associated contacts, but the task itself is not explicitly tied to the company object unless you add that association.

Practical workarounds

Here are the patterns that usually work best in this scenario:

  1. Use workflows to auto associate (if/when available in your portal)

    - If you have access to task-based workflows or workflows that can enroll based on “Task created” or similar triggers, set a workflow like:

    • Enrollment: Task is created and associated with a Contact.

    • Action: Associate the task with the Contact’s primary Company.

    - This does not change the bulk task UI but automates the missing association immediately after creation.

  2. Shift creation to the Company level when possible

    - For truly account-based motions, consider:

    • Creating tasks from a Company list/view in bulk (if your motion supports that) so tasks are anchored at the account.

    • Then, in the task title/body, reference the key contacts or use custom properties/filters to guide the rep to the right people.

    - This flips the mental model from “many contacts → tasks” to “accounts → tasks,” which often fits account-based workflows better.

  3. Standardize task queues for account work

    - Even if tasks are technically associated only with contacts, you can:

    • Build task queues and views filtered by Company properties (industry, lifecycle, owner) via the contacts associated with them.

    • Train reps to always work those queues from the Company record: open the company, then use the timeline filters to surface tasks created against associated contacts.

When to use an Ideas submission

- Because the missing “Company” association in bulk task creation is a genuine product gap and is already being discussed by Community managers and tagged experts, it is worth adding this as a formal request in the Ideas forum, framed as:

- “Add Company association option to bulk task creation from contact views” and

- “Allow workflows to auto-associate tasks to the primary company on creation (if not already supported).”

- The more clearly you describe the account-based use case (high-volume reps, need for clean task timelines on Company records, and the operational risk of manual association), the more likely Product will prioritize it.

Recommended approach for your team

For your current setup, the most sustainable pattern is:

- Keep using bulk task creation from contact views.

- Use a workflow (if available) or request one via your admin to auto-associate those tasks to the primary Company.

- In parallel, submit/ upvote the feature idea to add Company as an association target in the bulk task UI, and document a simple internal playbook so reps know how tasks “move” from the contact to the company via automation.
