Hi. We created and use Payment Links to allow our customers to choose from our products and pay for them via HubSpot Commerce Hub. However, there is no ability to automatically collect sales tax from our customers as they pay. Our clients can be from anywhere in the US, so it is far too difficult to manually create tax regions for all of the possible tax zones. In short, here’s what we need…
A customer goes to our website and chooses which product to purchase by clicking a link, and they get forwarded to the HubSpot Payment Portal for the appropriate Payment Link.
The put in their CC/ACH information, and we collect their billing information.
<here’s the need> Based on their zipcode, we need HubSpot Payments to automatically calculate the applicable sales tax and add it to their order.
The customer pays, and they now own our product.
Step 3 above seems very simple, and I think Stripe (behind HubSpot Payments) already supports this. We just need this exposed in HubSpot so we can leverage it.
You can try using ZipCode AutoFill to populate city/county/state data from the zipcode. Then use that to calculate your taxes -- with either custom workflows or native HubSpot features.
@mark44 As part of managing sales tax, are you also using Avalara’s AvaTax platform as well? If so, I think I have a way to achieve what you’re wanting. We had a similar use case for our business and ended up figuring out how to achieve this.
Hello all! Joe here from the HubSpot product team. I’m updating this idea to ‘Delivered’ because as of this summer (June 2025), we now support automated sales tax for payment links which dynamically calculates US & Canadian sales tax based on the address your buyer enters at Checkout.
@CBN I know that you’re looking for automated tax support for VAT which is on our roadmap. Please vote up and follow this idea (though it is specific to quotes, we’re using that for interest in VAT and GST) for future updates.
