I created a association Label called “Primary Contact”. This contact is my main contact person of a company.
So when I go to this company in Hubspot, I see all of the related contacts on the right side. Unfortunately I do not see my Primary Contact on the very top of the list. That is quite inconvenient. When I have a company with 20 contacts, I don’t want to scroll through them just to see who is my Primary Contact. I’d like to have the possibility to rank the contacts based on importance or job role.

Hi team! I am posting a customer’s use case here around association labels that’s causing a lot of friction for users who rely on labels for quick, at-a-glance visibility in the record sidebar.
In their setup, they use a concise custom label like “Key Contact” to indicate the main stakeholder on a company. However, the default HubSpot label “Contact with Primary Company” is:
- Very long, and
- Forced/required, and
- Displayed in a way that crowds out or truncates the custom label on the association chip in the side panel.
This effectively nullifies the benefit of using custom labels for quick scanning, because the most important label (“Key Contact”) is not reliably visible.
Feature requests:
- Allow admins to edit or rename the default “Contact with Primary Company” label (or optionally remove it if it doesn’t fit their workflow).
- Allow admins to rank or prioritize association labels, so we can explicitly control which label appears first and is fully visible on the association chip in the side panel (e.g., always show “Key Contact” first). Not only how the contacts are sorted but also which label is shown first if the contact has more than one.
These two enhancements would make association labels much more usable for teams that depend on visual clarity in the right sidebar and work with many associated contacts per record.
