Associating a Playbook for Contacts automatically with their Company

Hello, started working with playbooks recently and have a discovery call and rediscovery call playbook. One automatically associates with the company.

But the other does not assoicate with the company when done on the contact. The association needs to be manually entered instead. Does anyone know why this would be happening?

@Shane_Smith I believe the difference is in the question types. If all your question types save to only Contact properties, then HubSpot isn’t auto-associating to other objects. However, if a question in the Playbook saves to a Company property, then HubSpot will see the connection and associate it.

That’s my experience using Playbooks.

Thank you. The difference was the questions types. Looks like even when you remove the company property question afterwards the association will still occur. Problem solved.

Yay! You’re welcome @Shane_Smith - happy I could help!

Hey @danmoyle - I just tested this out, albeit with a slightly different configuration (playbook on a contact record, which then updates deal properties).

Despite the playbook correctly finding the contact’s associated deals and updating properties on the selected deal, I am finding that the “related” deal is not being automatically associated to the deal record when the playbook is logged. I’ve found that this is the case regardless of which activity type the playbooked is logged with (call, note, email, etc.).
Can you confirm if you’re actually seeing that automatic association happen on your end, and if you are, would you be willing to share a screen recording/screenshots with me? I just got off the phone with support and they confirmed that the activity logged via playbook will only log on the original record from which the playbook started…

Hi @laurabren. Here’s a video of what I’ll describe below:

I created a Playbook that asks for the name, Deal amount, and contact mobile phone. It logs it into a call, but does push the information into the associated Deal and Contact record both.

The key is that the Deal must be created - HubSpot won’t auto-create-and-associate, but it will push the data into an existing associated Deal.

That’s what I was thinking, not that a Playbook would create and associate a Deal from a different object. Does that track for your experience and expectations?

Confirming this solution worked for me. Thanks, Dan!
