If a contact is assigned to several companies, can I assign the contact with differant roles for each company?
For example,
John Smith is CEO at “ACME Engineering”, also, the same John Smith is Treasurer at “Do Good Things Inc” as a volunteer.
I have created two different companies, and created contact John Smith (with title CEO of ACME), then associated the contact to both companies.
However, how can I show John Smith is the treasurer at Do Good Things Inc?
Appreciate any advice. Cheers, Vic
Hi @victorgo,
One way to document this relationship between a contact and company would be an association label: Create and use association labels
Once set up, you could assign John Smith to ACME with the label “CEO” and to Do Good Things with the label “Volunteer”.
It would let you give a name to the relationship between a contact and a company.
From the example you gave, I would however assume that this contact uses different email addresses: john.smith@acme.com and john.smith@dogoodthings.com - in which case this person could have two separate contact records. That’s in fact what I’d recommend. For the purpose of most sales processes, these are two people, not the same person.
You could associate John Smith at ACME and John Smith at Do Good Things with each other easily, too, so that the two contacts are linked: Associate records
That way you’d achieve the following:
- Job title / role fields can be used as always
- Activity timeline on each contact record only refers to one company
- Via the link between the contacts it’s easily visible that the person works at two companies
Best regards
