Assigning a contact to a particular view

Hi everyone, I am wondering is there a way to create a contact and assign them to a particular tab view? I would like to have contacts for my real estate business in one tab and another tab view for my contacts regarding my land business. Any help would be appreciated. I created personalized views but can’t find how to assign a contact to a view instead of looking at all contacts. I want to be able to compartmentalize contacts and assign different tasks to different businesses. Thank you.

Hi @LRocca,

Views display records based on filters - so in that sense, you cannot add a contact to a view directly. You need to set up the filters of the view so that they pull in that contact: View and filter records

One way to set up a filter for that contact specifically would be to filter for “Email is any of …”. You could also filter for the record ID. However, that would be quite static. Maybe you’re starting to maintain your records’ persona, job titles, lifecycle stage, lead status etc - and set up filters based on that. If you do so, working your contacts will automatically add them to the view.

Don’t forget to save the view or everything will be gone upon refreshing the page.

Best regards

Man, trying to figure this out during the demo days. Still havent been able to figure out, thanks for the reply.

@LRocca could you confirm if you need further help with this or not? If you’re getting stuck, can you please share a screenshot of where you’re getting stuck?

Hi @LRocca!,

HubSpot doesn’t offer a way to directly “assign” a contact to a specific view or tab. In HubSpot, the views (or “saved filters”) you create are dynamically generated based on contact properties - they aren’t static buckets that a contact can be placed into.
For your scenario - one straightforward option - you could create a custom contact property (for example, a dropdown or radio button) that identifies the type of business the contact belongs to (e.g., “Real Estate” or “Land”). You update this property for each contact either manually or via a workflow.

  • Create the Custom Property:
In HubSpot, navigate to Settings > Properties, and create a new property (e.g., “Business Type”) with the options you need.
  • Update Contacts:
When you create a contact (or later via an import or workflow), set the “Business Type” property accordingly.
  • Create Filtered Views:
Once contacts have this property populated, create a custom view for each business. For instance, for your Real Estate contacts, create a view that filters contacts where “Business Type” equals “Real Estate.”

This method not only allows you to segment your contacts in your views but also lets you trigger different workflows or task assignments based on that property.

If you have any questions, let me know.

When I do what you say:
Create the Custom Property:
In HubSpot, navigate to Settings > Properties, and create a new property (e.g., “Business Type”) with the options you need.
My Create button on the top right corner is greyed out. I can’t just type “Business Type” and hit create.

@LRocca that indicates that you either do not have the permissions and would have to ask an admin in your company or that you hit the limits of the free CRM. Moving the mouse over the button should show a tool tip with an explanation.

Thank you. I am under a demo trial but if I can not get a full scope of what this product can do, when I am just looking for the basics to keep my contacts organized, I am going to look for another. Hubspot seems to be way to difficult to perform the basic tasks I am looking for to keep my contacts organized for different businesses. Thank you for your help.

Absolutely, what you’re looking to do is very doable in HubSpot using custom properties and filtered views, rather than directly assigning contacts to a “tab.”

Here’s how to structure it:

  1. Create a Custom Property:
Go to Settings > Properties, and create a new dropdown property like Business Type with options like “Real Estate” and “Land.”
  2. Assign Business Type to Contacts:
When you create or edit a contact, select the appropriate value for the Business Type field.
  3. Create Filtered Views:
Go to your Contacts view, click “Create View” (or clone your existing one), and add a filter like:
    Business Type is Real Estate
Save this as your “Real Estate Contacts” view. Repeat the process for “Land.”
  4. Use Task Queues per View (Optional):
To assign different tasks per business line, you can create task queues filtered by these views and assign them accordingly.

This way, while you’re not literally assigning contacts to “tabs,” you’re effectively organizing them into clear, customized segments that function just like tabs. It keeps everything clean and manageable across your business lines.
