I would like to know what the api instructions are for the “contact message” field when you click on a contact from the crm menu (see screenshot, it is at the bottom)

Hi @TCodreanu,

“Contact message” seems to be a custom contact property someone created in your portal. You can use the CRM API: [Accounts Dashboard | HubSpot](https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api-reference/crm-contacts-v3/guide)

Best regards

Ok, I clicked that link -it is not clear what API command we would use to update the “contact message field”. I do not see a mention on how to update a custom field with API

@TCodreanu here’s an example request, with the help of generative AI.

```lia-code-sample
PATCH https://api.hubapi.com/crm/v3/objects/contacts/123456
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_PRIVATE_APP_TOKEN
Content-Type: application/json
{
 "properties": {
 "contact_message": "This is the updated message text from API"
 }
}
```

Replace `123456` with the HubSpot **contact ID** (or use the Search API)

Replace `contact_message` with the **internal name** of your custom property.

ok I will try and see if it works; however this does not appear to be a custom property -there is a drop down field that shows up under “contact activity” as per pics when I try to edit those fields

@TCodreanu I’m not clear what you’re referring to - the contact message field in the left sidebar (as per your screenshots) or a logged note (activity)?
