# API - Create/Update Contact List In Specific Parent Folder

Hi,

Is there a way to set the folder (attribute looks to be parentId) when creating or updating a contact list through the APIs? I don’t see it on the API documentation ([https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/lists/create\_list](https://legacydocs.hubspot.com/docs/methods/lists/create_list)), and what I’ve tried so far hasn’t worked.

Hello @mo2266!

Unfortunately, that functionality does not exist, yet. I found a similar [question](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/APIs-Integrations/Create-folders-for-contact-lists/td-p/226303) asked a couple years ago asking for this functionality as well. It was suggested that they create a post in the ideas forum, but it looks like they did not. I would recommend that you add a post [there](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/ideaslandingpage). Hubspot does monitor that channel for ideas
