Adding a new contact from the company screen

How come when I add a new contact to an exisiting company it asks me to enter a company name? Shouldn’t that field already be filled in since I am adding a contact to an existing company. If I accidently add something different then what happens. What company will the contact actually be associated with?

I looked into this deeper and found out that Company Name and Contact Company Name are two different fields. Coming from Salesforce that caught me off guard. What’s the benefit though? Seems a little confusing.
