For anyone sending marketing or sales emails, the ability to automatically populate templates with a contact’s preferred name as default and fall back to given name. For example, If my contact Michael Smith prefers to go by Mike, any template I use with Mike’s contact record should use Mike.
This could be an automatic choice where personalizing a template with “Frist Name” chooses preferred name and falls back to First Name if preferred name is empty. Or, it could just be an additional field we can choose when creating templates.
Hi @BSolimine,
You’re probably asking for a built-in solution here – but this can already be achieved with a custom property, active lists and smart content.
Let me know if you’d like detailed steps, then a community manager could move this topic over to the discussion side and I’ll provide a step by step instruction.
Cheers!
@karstenkoehler I saw the smart content but unfortunately for us, it’s locked behind Marketing Hub. I find this with a lot of features, actually. Seems like there is a ver fine line between Sales and Marketing where features that would benefit our sales process are considered to be marketing functions.
Hi @BSolimine, that’s unfortunate. Let’s hope the product team sees this post then
@karstenkoehler I’d love to see the detailed steps for achieving this in smart rules. The only options I see with smart rules are “Show different content based on Contact List Membership or Contact Lifecycle Stage.” I don’t see a way to program personalization logic into an email such that:
- If preferred name exists, use this
- If no preferred name, use first name
- If no first name or preferred name, use universal default (e.g. “friend” or “there”)
Thanks, and thanks to @BSolimine for raising this! ++++1 to this idea.
Hello All! I had the same inquiry as calling our customers by their preferred name has everything to do with their Cx Experience, I solved it following this next steps:
> Contacts
> Setup
> Manage contact properties
> Create property (this is an orange button located at the right side of the screen)
Then you will see a form to fill with the next information:
- Object type (Contact)
- Group (Contact information)
- Label (Preferred name)
- Description (A contact’s preferred name)
I hope it works for you
I’ve created a field, but I need marketing emails to go to preferred name first, and then if blank default to contact name. Can this be done?
