# Add Additional Email via API

Trying to add a contact so that when accessing contacts on portal, we can see this.

Currently my payload when creating a contact looks like this:  
properties: {  
firstname: “Test”,  
lastname: “Example”,  
email: “[test@test.com](mailto:test@test.com)”,  
additional\_emails:  
"[test@test.com](mailto:test@test.com), [testing@test.com"](mailto:testing@test.com%22,)  
}  
However, the additional emails are not added to the above screenshot. When trying to add the additional emails to the “hs\_additional\_emails” I get an error saying that is a calculated field. How do I solve so that the additional emails are properly shown as screenshot, or are later calculated to avoid duplicate emails / contacts?

Hey, @jtsuero 👋 The Contacts API docs don’t list a method for accomplishing this. This post covers how to use the [Secondary Email](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/APIs-Integrations/Update-Secondary-Email-v3-API/m-p/680705/highlight/true#M55865) endpoint. I hope this helps! — Jaycee
