We’ve just moved to Hubspot to handle our support and our team cannot stop complaining about this feature! It’s so frustrating they are sending unfinished messages all the time and it looks unprofessional!
100% +1 on this. It’s unacceptable IMO that this feature request is 4 years old. It’s not that much more effort to click `send` manually. It prevents such embarrassment.

Since half the time I’m using the conversations box for email (which does not auto-send upon “return”) and half the time for chat, the muscle memory causes so many half-chats

Agree, having an option for sending with command/control + enter would be amazing!
Switching from e-mail to live chat means a lot of accidental sending, would be nice to have the same behaviour.
Please fix this, It is such amateur hour to have this feature work like this- the enter button should not actually send the message - LinkedIn fixed this on their site 10 years ago
Yes, please fix this. Team just switched from Intercom and it’s painful! Slack has a configurable setting for each user, which would be ideal.

intercom has functionality to use hot key to send vs enter
This is critical, I constantly end up sending mistake ridden messages or half complete message because of this. We either need this or “unsend” capability in live chat.
This would really be helpful to align feature-wise with other support chat platforms and accomidate different workflows.
